bad to the bone
I took Maggy in for her annual exam & shots last Saturday and now I am looking at an approx. $1300 vet bill for this month.
She is having dental surgery today. She has 2 broken molars thanks to a pressed rawhide bone + she lost one completely (which is why we went to the vet in the first place last weekend). She is 10, but the cost of this procedure makes rawhide bones so not worth it at any age.
She actually broke a tooth when she was 5 on a Nylabone and that resulted in a $900 root canal. At that time they said because she is young, we should repair the tooth and therefore have the root canal. My point in all of this is that BONES ARE BAD!!
On Saturday she also had a senior blood test. Vet called yesterday with the results and said her liver enzymes were up 5-10% more than normal + she has crystals in her urine, so she will need to be treated for both and checked again in a month. She also has a tiny growth on her eye lid which he would like to remove and do a biopsy on it + she has 4 small mole/wart-like growths that he wants to remove so they don't get caught on anything and bleed.
The estimate I got this morning when I dropped her off was $843-1054. Add to that the $235 we paid last Saturday for the exam, Senior blood test, & shots. Aye Aye Aye!
When I dropped Maggy off today they asked me to come into the exam room so I could talk with the doctor. So there I am, 38 weeks pregnant, trying to push a stroller while being pulled by a 65 lb. pooch. An assistant finally asked me if I needed help after I ran the stroller into the 3rd door jamb. I said "yea, otherwise I may go into labor." (BTW, I am 4cm dilated and 80% effaced as of yesterday). The Vet overheard my comment and when he came into the exam room, he said he would be fine if I went into labor while I was there. He said it was a dream of his as a doctor to deliver a human baby. Wouldn't that be a swell story to tell Gavin someday "The day I brought you home from the vet....."
UPDATE: It only cost $690 (+ the $235 from last weekend). Yay! What a deal! Although I have to go back in 10-14 days to have her sutures removed and then again in a month for have her liver and urine re-checked via a blood test. At this point all that really means is that we will have to shell out more moola.
She looks like she got in a fight, no? Bryan says she looks like Petey from the Little Rascals. lol.
Anyone know how to get rid of the green eyed glow?
I know this photo (above) is terribly out of focus but I am too lazy (er, pregnant) to get up off the couch and re-take it.
Still 100% adorable, even with one eyebrow, glowing eyes, and lots of sutures.
Sorry, I didn't get any pictures of her teeth, or lack there of.
